People’s Park in Istanbul is another giant project

After the construction of Istanbul Airport in 2019, the Turkish government decided to transform Ataturk Airport with all its buildings and squares into one of the major parks in Turkey and the world. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on May 29, 2022, placed the first seedlings in Ataturk Park, or People’s Park and it is planned to open Officially in 2023 to be the largest park in Turkey and the fifth in the world

Features of People’s Park in Istanbul:

People’s Park in Istanbul extends over an area of ​​8.5 million square meters and is divided according to the following: 9% of them are areas designated for military purposes, 30% of them will be used for general air navigation, and the remaining 61%, estimated at 5.2 million square meters, are designated For recreational areas such as the youth center, museum and exhibition city, as well as a community center and disaster gathering space.

The main entrance to the former airport has been modified from the side of the D100 road to the Yeşilkoy intersection, and work is being done to connect the project with metro stations in the area.

What will the park include when it opens?

The project officials intend to keep the garden green throughout the year and to achieve this, it is expected that 145,300 trees will be planted, which will be of the needle family, in addition to the broad-leaved trees, through which a water spring passes that will extend over the entire garden.

Part of the park has been designated for hiking and walking, in addition to another section dedicated to events and activities, equipped with a giant screen and a capacity of 28,000 people, in addition to the children’s section, which covers an area of ​​ten thousand square meters, which will host 7 different forms of games and amusement parks.

And do not forget the sports and adventure venues, where a sports arena has been allocated for 300 people and is equipped with an amphitheater for the audience that can receive two thousand spectators, in addition to an adventure section with an area of ​​145,000 square meters, with a ski slope of 650 meters in length.

Just as athletes have a large share within the park, artists and creatives also have a good share, where they can display their work in the garden museum in addition to a library, lecture hall, workshops, and public reading rooms.

The park also contains a restaurant, a café, and a mosque that will receive 18,000 worshippers, in addition to a temporary shelter center for the reception and care of the elderly, not forgetting the offices of the General Directorate of Forests.

It is expected that internal alterations will be made to the terminal buildings and the external airline buildings at the airport while preserving the external structure and transforming it into an exhibition city.
