History of Istanbul Museum of Modern Art
The Istanbul Museum of Modern Art or Modern Sanat Istanbul was founded in 1987 at the request of Professor Dr. Necati Egzaghi Bashi, under the supervision of the Turkish government. It is a museum dedicated to Turkish and international contemporary art.
After that, this museum remained specific to a specific time and type of art until 2003, when the former Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed the possibility of opening the museum throughout the year, it began to be used continuously and became more active and vibrant and was expanded to an area of 8,000 square metres.

It consists of several sections and floors that contains Ancient and modern art paintings, architecture and sculptural forms.
There are also specialised halls for various artistic education courses, history and culture courses for all ages and groups, and all of these courses are provided free of charge.
It also organises public technical conferences.
The museum also contains a cinema hall where artistic and cultural films are shown free of charge.
There is also a large library filled with a multitude of books on Turkish and world art, culture, and other priceless books.
In addition, there is a souvenir shop and a special hall to organise the sale of artworks of its member artists.
Istanbul Museum of Modern Art location
The museum is located on the European bank of the Bosphorus in the Beyoglu district, next to the oldest ports of Istanbul, which was established in the thirteenth century and is still standing today.
It can be visited on Sundays and Tuesdays from ten in the morning until six in the evening.
Thursday from ten o’clock until eight o’clock.
Entry to the Istanbul Museum is for a nominal fee, with special discounts for students and families.
